STELLAR — a modular, high-capacity magnetic cooling platform delivering 125kW+ refrigerant-free cooling for data centres, HVAC, industrial processing, and beyond.

Darmstadt, Germany — 23.06.2026

MAGNOTHERM, the deep-tech cooling company pioneering magnetocaloric technology, announces the launch of STELLAR — a modular, high-capacity magnetic cooling platform built around superconducting magnet technology. The STELLAR vision represents the most significant step in the company's development to date, targeting high-demand cooling applications across data centres, HVAC, industrial processing, and beyond.

The Challenge

Cooling accounts for approximately 10% of global energy demand — a figure projected to triple by 2050. The technology currently serving that demand, gas compression cooling, has not fundamentally changed in over a century, and relies on refrigerants with significant environmental consequences. As cooling requirements grow across critical industries, the need for a credible, scalable alternative has never been more urgent.

The Technology

MAGNOTHERM's cooling systems are built on the magnetocaloric effect, the property of specialist materials to change temperature in response to a magnetic field. The company has spent over a decade developing this technology from laboratory concept into commercial hardware, culminating in POLARIS, which validated the technology in real-world systems, and ECLIPSE, which notably brings refrigerant-free magnetic cooling to retail cooling applications this year with German Supermarket chain REWE Group.

The path to higher cooling capacities is defined by a clear physical principle: the stronger the magnetic field, the greater the magnetocaloric power output. Calculations show that at 5T, the magnetocaloric power gain is approximately 100x greater than at 1T. Achieving fields of this magnitude can be achieved with superconducting magnets — and specifically, high temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes, which deliver powerful magnetic fields without the weight and scale trade-offs associated with permanent magnet systems when used in high capacity applications.

The commercial viability of this approach has been significantly strengthened by advancements in the fusion energy economy, which has driven production scaling and clear cost-down pathways for HTS materials. Development work on superconducting magnet coil design is already underway at MAGNOTHERM.

STELLAR — refrigerant-free magnetic cooling for data centre applications. 125kW+ modular units delivering high-capacity, energy-efficient cooling without reliance on refrigerants or local water supply.

STELLAR

STELLAR is MAGNOTHERM's implementation of HTS technology: a modular cooling platform delivering 125kW+ units, designed for deployment across data centres, industrial processing facilities, HVAC infrastructure, and large-scale retail environments. Key features include:

  • Fully refrigerant-free operation

  • 125kW+ modular cooling units

  • Energy regeneration capability

  • Clear cost parity pathways with conventional cooling

  • Near-silent operation, suitable for occupied environments

  • No reliance on local water supply

By combining over a decade of magnetocaloric expertise with the company's latest LaFeSi material developments and superconducting magnet technology, STELLAR is designed to deliver magnetic cooling at the capacity and performance levels demanded by critical industries.

Looking Ahead

STELLAR is currently in the development phase, with a project timeline extending over the coming months and years toward full commercialisation. MAGNOTHERM is actively seeking technical, commercial, and financial partners to help define and accelerate the path ahead.

"POLARIS and ECLIPSE demonstrated that this technology works in the real world. STELLAR is about unlocking its full potential — delivering high capacity magnetic cooling for industry." Timur Sirman, Co-founder and CEO.
